Item upgrades give players the ability to upgrade equipment that they already have. This can be done at any item upgrader NPC.

Utility items aren't compatible with each other, in contrast to weapons or armor. Most utility items provide an effect that a player can activate by using them, however, some come with additional capabilities that are triggered when the user presses a button or activates a skill.

Generally speaking, the most popular type of utilitarian item is the Flashlight that is used to illuminate the surrounding area. Other utilities include the Helicopter Hat and Rocket Boots, which allow the player to float in the air while moving, and the Jetpack which allows players to accelerate in any direction while on the ground.
