World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components
Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons and trinkets to provide an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot for them. The item must be at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players make stronger versions of the equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.
A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by buying them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.
Each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will be dropped in the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear, even in the event that they don't know what can be improved upon an update.
If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be expensive, and there is a significant chance that the item could be obsolete or even break when it fails. A failure to upgrade can destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that can increase or even eliminate the chances of failure, as well as some upgrades that provide a bonus when reinserted into an item.
Glyphs

Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus which will boost a specific set of stat nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Using a Glyph will boost all nodes connected to it, so it is recommended to position your Glyphs near key nodes on the Graph to maximise the impact. Druids, for instance should put their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also consider placing them near their primary damage nodes.
Leveling
The upgrade system for items allows players to boost the power of certain items by introducing upgraded components. This is referred to as "upping". Every upgradeable item has a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385 ilvl. Each item level requires different components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.
Certain upgrades require a certain ingredient to activate. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns some Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. When an individual player improves a piece of equipment, the base item is replaced by the new item. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This could be a disadvantage since the item may become more expensive even if you do not need it.
Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do this. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, with an initial level and a totally different set of extra bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, however it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can waste lots of resources.
Some upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their gear. A good example of this is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player repeatedly enters and exits water (or does not swim as a dolphin). This can be upgraded several times, each time raising the maximum roll by an increment of 10. This item is highly important in PvP. A well-rolled version can be worth as much as 50x the value of a unupgraded counterpart.

If an item is not able to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it has gained like crit chance, attack damage, or other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time or the speed of reloading). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor after the failure.
If an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied in order from lowest to highest. This means that, should a weapon gain an increase in its crit chance, the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a new attribute that was added to the definitions of items. The value is calculated every time an upgrade occurs.
The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are dependent on its rarity score and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium products is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for example, a common equipment item might have 5 upgrades, each costing 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero quality items will have a much lower cost for each additional upgrade.
Premium items may require different upgrades than standard gear. For example, they may need less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons.
